The last week and a half has seen the winter weather take hold with 2 inches of snow falling across the golf course and temps hitting -7 degrees!. With many greens still covered in snow and ice it is worth noting parts of the course see little if any sun at this time of year due to being surrounded by trees, most notably: 2nd, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th,11th,14th, 15th and 16th greens. With night time temps dropping to -3 and daytime temps not rising above freezing there is little chance of a thaw. Despite a slight improvement in the forecast it is likely the course will remain closed over the coming weekend (11th,12th December).
Following advice and recommendations from the course architect and professional tree surgeon the tree has been removed in order to restore the hole back to its original design, contributing to the broader landscape restoration of the golf course as a whole. The front of the approach and green complex can now be seen from the fairway rewarding a well struck drive with a line into the green. Steve Coates has joined the greenkeeping team bringing with him 14 years of experience having previously worked in Germany and The Wisley Golf Club. This brings the total number of staff to six. As we head towards Christmas fingers remain crossed the weather improves and the course returns to normality!
